The wild at heart ice spritelings1/14/2024 The Wild at Heart borrows several of its mechanics from Nintendo IP, there’s no question about that. Couple this with a beautifully calming soundtrack, and we honestly can’t praise the presentation enough. It makes you care about your actions, and pushes you to see your journey through to its end. This is a world that has been meticulously assembled with the utmost care, from the main characters right down to the flora and fauna. With handcrafted 2D characters, the game’s unique style really shines through. The good news, however, is that the loading times are more than worth it just so you can cast your eyes over the stunning visuals on display. When you frequently need to move back and forth between areas, this can definitely get a bit irritating. Smaller areas aren’t too bad, but when you move into a large, open space, the game often takes between 30-60 seconds to load. The size of the land does, however, mean that the game often struggles with its loading times. The map branches out into different paths, all of which are explorable, even if a few require a couple of upgrades to your equipment or Spritelings to navigate. When you’re given your main task of locating the Greenshields members, how you go about this is pretty much up to you. ![]() Structurally, the game is largely similar to The Legend of Zelda, specifically Breath of the Wild in terms of its freedom of choice. Captured on Nintendo Switch (Handheld/Undocked) Regardless of the method, you rarely need to worry too much about the wellbeing of your little friends. Alternatively, if you want to save your currency, you can dismiss any idle Spritelings entirely at the wells. Should any of them become stuck in the world at any point - whether it be on an island or a cliff side - you can spend 50 of your coloured orbs to warp the little guys back to your position. Sometimes, you just have to cross your fingers and hope that their increased numbers can chip away at a monster’s health before they’re all killed.ĭespite these minor frustrations, the game does include a few quality-of-life conveniences to ensure you’re able to track and manage your Spriteling squad. There’s little you can do about this other than hatch even more of them to replace your extinguished friends, but it can make for some frustrating encounters, particularly since the enemies’ health bars replenish when you return to their locations. Going up against larger creatures, they can be knocked back with relative ease, and multiple hits will lead to their death. Of course, although useful in their own way, the Spritelings are nevertheless pretty inept when it comes to self-defence. As soon as you’re able to hatch larger batches of them in one go, though, their strength in numbers makes tasks much more manageable and time-friendly. In the early hours, you’ll find a lot of tasks take a little bit of time, as you’ll only have a few of the Spritelings at once. The Spritelings themselves can be hurled around as you roam the land, mostly to either carry items for you or break down objects and monsters with their combined force. You can only have a maximum of 15 with you at the start of the game, but this increases over time. You simply chuck these into a Spriteling Well and out pop the Spritelings. Creating them is fairly straightforward, requiring a combination of collectible items called Twigling Pips and blue coloured orbs. These are essentially the ‘Pikmin’ of this universe, and you’ll be cultivating and utilising these little guys quite a lot on your journey. Shortly after meeting the Greenshields and testing out his upgraded Gustbuster, Wake encounters adorable little creatures known as Spritelings. However, despite pulling most of its mechanics from other games - not unlike the similarly magpie-like (and excellent) Death's Door - thanks to its well-realised world, engaging characters, and stunning visual design, developer Moonlight Kids has managed to craft something that feels wholly unique. The Wild at Heart, however, is one of the most successful stabs at playing Nintendo's game we’ve seen in some time.įeaturing a mix of gameplay elements from Pikmin, Luigi’s Mansion, and The Legend of Zelda, The Wild at Heart might, on paper at least, seem like it has no ideas of its own, instead being perfectly content with hanging on the coattails of Nintendo’s finest. After all, many attempts by third-parties to imitate Nintendo’s design traits and tricks have fallen flat thanks to poor execution or a lack of understanding concerning what made such mechanics so great in the first place. ![]() Such a statement might strike fear into your heart, and we wouldn’t blame you. The Wild at Heart feels like an amalgamation of some of Nintendo’s most unique gaming mechanics. I would also highly recommend those students who have an account with Netflix, to use the Google chrome extension, Language Learning with Netflix: Īlthough the format is different to the IB exams, it is a good place to start with getting familiar with listening to Japanese in an examination situation. As I mentioned in a different reply today, my first port of call (until the IB provides us with actual exams to use) is the Victorian VCE Japanese Listening exams which are available online. Good luck with your teaching in New Zealand. I have attached above a document with a list of ab initio grammatical patterns that students need to gain the top marks in both the oral and written exams. Also, verbs in the plain form with ‘tsumori desu’, or ‘yotei desu’ would be further examples of more complex structures. When it comes to grammar, ‘basic grammatical structures’ would tend to mean simple sentences with no advanced grammatical patterns, whereas more complex sentences would include sentences with two parts, sentences with reasons, sentences including clauses ending in ‘…koto ga dekimasu’ or ‘….koto ga suki desu’. I interpret ‘vocabulary is appropriate to the task’, to mean that the student has only the language necessary to give a relevant answer to the question but that ‘vocabulary is appropriate to the task, and varied’ would have to include additional descriptive vocabulary such as adjectives, adverbs, or additional information beyond a simple relevant answer. There are a number of criteria to look at, so you need to look at the overall picture using your judgement and the descriptions of the criteria. Then if you think it is at the lower end of the band, give the lower mark, and if it is at the higher end, give a higher mark. The descriptions can be difficult at first, but it is always advised that you start by looking at each marking band, starting from the lowest band, and rule out each one until you get to the band that seems to fit. I hope this helps!įirstly, I guess that you are talking about the ab initio Individual Oral Assessment (the IA – Internal Assessment). You can also get audio files for past examinations if you are able to log in to Edexcel. It is worth downloading them all for the excellent listening practice:įor IB ab initio Japanese, the GCSE listening papers are a good way to start, and you can get some sample audio files and papers here: You can freely download writing, reading and listening papers, and they come with audio mp3 files – all the way back to 2002. I think we are all on the lookout for listening resources! The best resource I have found for the IB Japanese Language B exams (SL) is the Australian VCE qualification, which is for second language learners after approximately six years learning the language at high school level. It’s OK to peek at the reverse side if you forget a kanji: You can start by tracing the characters on one side, and as you gain confidence you can fill in the empty squares on the other side. Fetch lands mtg1/13/2024 Providing a 99-card deck with 28 lands, a starting hand of 7 cards will have in expectation ("on average") 1.98 lands and 5.02 non-lands. So Sam, if you take an average cEDH deck, 99 cards and 28 lands, does cracking a fetch on your first turn make much of a difference for your second one? In long, I turned to my friend Sam, a maths teacher and one half of the best drafting channel on Youtube, Draft Punks. It's irrelevant, and always a bad argument for the inclusion of fetchlands. ![]() Thinning isn't a reason for or against running fetchlands, but it's a persistent phenomena that deserves a mention. After all, if you can avoid the taxes and tribulations every other greedy mana base will fall prey to, why wouldn't you? What About Thinning? Mono-color decks are pretty much the only cEDH decks that can get away with a fetchless mana base, a strength that seems increasingly worth leaning into. Of course, there are also dedicated anti-land cards that will crop up from pod to pod, like Root Maze and Blood Moon, but those effects are on their way out of the cEDH meta to begin with. The growing prevalence of these cards means fetchlands now come with a real risk, one that wasn't there until recently. No, these cards won't always be in play, and an opening hand with a fetchland should be able to play it without fear of these cards landing on turn one, but I'd wager the likelihood one of your opponents has an anti-fetchland effect is greater than the chance you've seen the card you play that cares about fetches. In order of the danger they pose, Opposition Agent makes your opponent fetch instead, Aven Mindcensor makes fetching useless unless you get very lucky indeed, Archon of Emeria slows them down to a crawl, and Archivist of Oghma gives its owner a draw every time you crack one. Being an Island, it can be tutored by any of the four fetches available to blue, making it a powerful inclusion.Īs much as you might want to make fetch happen, there are now four Regina George cEDH staples that directly punish you for playing fetchlands, three of them printed in as many years. Mystic Sanctuary is similar to Counterbalance in the sense it's a rare card to see at a cEDH table, but any list running it will make great use of fetchlands. You'll never be sorry to exile them as you're unlikely to be doing anything else with them once they enter the bin, unlike valuable snstants and sorceries. As we'll see with Underworld Breach, fetchlands help raise the count of disposable resources in the graveyard. If you're not happy with the card you know to be on top, crack a fetch and get rid of the damn thing.ĭig Through Time is a delve spell, and delve spells need things to delve. Fetchlands are good with Counterbalance for the same reason they're good with Brainstorm. Hey, if it's good enough for Vintage and Legacy, it's good enough for cEDH!Ĭounterbalance isn't exactly a staple in cEDH, but it shows up frequently enough - especially in mono-blue decks - that it's worth noting. ![]() Brainstorm is more than playable in its own right, but following up with a fetchland will allow you to shuffle away whichever two cards you left on top of your library. This interaction is present in any format that has access to the cards. Brainstorm goes with fetchlands the way peanut butter goes with jam (or jelly, as the Americans call it). Barring white, every color has at least one reason, or one card, that benefits from this.īlue has the most reasons of any single color to care about fetchlands. Shuffling in and of itself is useless, but when paired with a card that cares about the top of your library, possibilities arise. The most common use for fetchlands in cEDH (in mono-color decks) is the ability to shuffle your library. While life loss and the chance to recur a land straight from the bin come up in other formats, neither ability is leveraged much in cEDH. It might seem silly decks that only care about one type of mana would want them in the first place, but read on. The primary reason fetchlands have seen mass play in every format they're legal in is how good they are at fixing mana, which isn't a concern for a mono-color deck. The rise of anti-tutor effects has given pause for thought on everyone's favourite broken land cycle, and while decks of two colors or more will remain just as reliant on fetchlands, mono-color decks have now reached a point where the risk outweighs the reward.īut before looking at why mono-color cEDH decks shouldn't be playing fetchlands, let's look at why they've played them historically. Polluted Delta by Vincent Proce and Regina George by Rachel McAdamsįor all their myriad benefits, fetchlands have never carried so much risk in cEDH as they do right now. Bitdefender antivirus review1/13/2024 To our delight, Bitdefender detected all five viruses, which we were super impressed with since the average is closer to around 60 percent detection. We know viruses come in a variety of forms, so we wanted to use these files across all of the antivirus software that we tested to see how they performed. So, we downloaded (but didn’t open, we swear!) five different files containing everything from adware to spyware to even Trojan malware. ![]() But we know that’s not quite useful for our readers, to whom we are eternally devoted. Neither of those scans detected anything, and we were proud that our computer had been spared from malware. We were even able to do the whole scan without our laptop being plugged in, no problem although because of the extra background process, our laptop performed a bit slower than normal. This did take about one hour and 40 minutes, but again, it never interfered with our regular usage. After the quick scan, we settled in for a deeper cleaning: a full system scan. It was done in just 13 minutes, and we were able to continue using the computer the entire time without any interruption in our network speed. Even if a full system scan is in progress, we could launch an on-demand scan of anything suspicious, such as a recent download or other specific file.ĭuring our trial with Bitdefender, we first performed a quick scan, which just looks at the critical areas where malware can usually be found lurking. And to even further cater to our anxiety, Bitdefender allows users to run multiple scans at once. We love the way Bitdefender is constantly updating its intelligence on the latest viruses. Bitdefender continuously scans the device for any suspicious files that it compares against a list of daily updated security threats. That’s certainly more preferable to antivirus software with outdated virus definition databases.īitdefender offers both on-demand scans (meaning we can perform one whenever we’re feeling a bit anxious) and on-access (whenever the app is open, even in the background). ![]() When we used it, the app performed these updates as much as four times in a day. There’s also a notifications tab where you can easily see all of the updates the software is doing so that they’re constantly up to date on the latest malwares that are out there. There are buttons to do a quick scan or a system scan. The dashboard for Bitdefender’s app for Mac is relatively intuitive. 1 Compared to over two million for Windows devices, it doesn’t sound like that much, but it’s a number increasing year after year. There were over half a million new malware software targeting Macs in 2020. FYI: The development of malware targeting Mac systems has shot up in recent years. Universe sandbox 2 steam ladders1/13/2024 ![]() The final match featuring Dominik and Rey felt truly special in a way that previous career modes never really have due to their relationship as father and son. You can see the excitement on Rey’s face as he goes over what was happening. Rey explains why certain moves happen at particular times and conveys the emotion and excitement of the moment very effectively. The documentary feel enhances the gameplay and helps new players to understand what goes into making an entertaining match. I was able to find my flow again after the transition back to the match with relative ease. Despite it interrupting the gameplay, I found that I didn’t mind. The transitions from gameplay to footage were silky smooth. You get pushed to point of triggering flashbacks to actual archival footage from the matches. These objectives try to push you to recreate some of the exact moments that happened in these matches. Most of these objectives aren’t too difficult, with the exception of the match with Batista. Each one of these intense matches provides you with objectives it wants you to complete. During the course of 11 matches, you get to recreate some of Rey Mysterios’ key victories and one loss. Rey is a personal favorite of mine, so I might be partially biased in how much this mode resonated with me. In it, you get to follow the twenty-plus year career of the Legendary masked luchador Rey Mysterio. The Showcase Mode is by far the highlight and most impressive mode in the game by far. WWE 2K22 has one of the best Showcase Modes you can experience. ![]() This will provide longevity to the game’s life cycle. WWE 2K22 seems to want to attract new and returning players alike and bring them back into the action. The controls were pretty simple to pick up and relearn and have been simplified from the previous installment. Allowing you to get one up on your opponents and hopefully take back the advantage. When opponents are beating you down and have you in a combo, you have to ability to try and predict which action is next in the combo and press the same button to break or reverse the combo. The biggest innovation is the introduction of the Combo Breaker system which makes the fast-paced action that much better. There is no accidentally putting a wrestler through a table. Weapon shots and situations where wrestlers fall on the weapons make more sense as well. I can’t tell you how many times my opponent and I went back and forth reversing each other’s moves with reversal after reversal. The controls are on point especially when it comes to reversals. If not timed correctly when the opponent is coming off the ropes, you hit each other and it just looks odd. During the matches, everything flows smoothly except for a couple of awkward collisions. When it comes to the WWE 2K22’s gameplay there were not many issues. The selection of match types feels like 2K wanted to add as much variety as possible. After a brief tutorial with Drew Gulak to teach the new controls and combo system, you can jump right into your first match. Here there were a plethora of different match types, everything from a regular one-on-one, to Ladder Matches, all the way to Hell In A Cell. With WWE 2K22, you can get right into the action through the exhibition mode. I am here to tell you today this game has traveled the path of redemption. Since the absolute disaster of WWE 2K20, there have been many murmurings about WWE taking their games elsewhere if WWE 2K22 was not a success. What an amazing thing a year off for a game can be.
